Virtual Art Services for LED Volume Production

Design, source, or build the environments behind your shoot.

Virtual production starts with the environment.

Before anything shows up on the wall, it has to be defined, sourced, or built. That process is virtual art. It’s how you turn a concept into something you can actually shoot.

Some productions come in with assets ready to go. Others need everything built from scratch. Most fall somewhere in between.

Forge helps you figure out what you need, how to build it, and how it will actually work on set.

The Environment Shapes Everything That Follows

01.

Define It Early

Environment decisions happen before you can scope shoot days, plan logistics, or lock in production details. Without it, everything else becomes harder to plan.

02.

Control Timeline and Cost

2D and 3D environments require different timelines and budgets. Choosing the right approach upfront keeps your production on track.

03.

Make the Shot Work

Camera movement, realism, and lighting all depend on the environment. The right setup ensures what you capture actually holds up on screen.

How Virtual Art Comes Together

 Start with the Concept

We review your idea, references, and goals to understand what environments are needed and how they’ll be used in the shoot.

Define the Approach

We determine whether your project calls for 2D, 3D, or a mix based on timeline, budget, and camera requirements.

Source or Build

We either work with your existing assets or create new environments, from curated 2D plates to fully built 3D worlds.

Prepare for the Wall

Everything is optimized and tested to ensure it works correctly on the LED wall and integrates with your production setup.

2D or 3D. Know What
You’re Choosing.

One of the first decisions is whether your project calls for 2D environments, 3D environments, or both.

2D plates are faster to create and easier to manage on set. They work well for controlled shots where camera movement is limited.

3D environments are built in Unreal Engine and respond to camera movement in real time. They add depth, parallax, and realism, but require more time and investment to build.

There isn’t a default answer. The right choice depends on your timeline, your budget, and what the shot actually needs to do.

Most 3D environments require 4–8 weeks to build depending on complexity.

Work With What You Have or Build What You Need

01.

Bring Your Own Backgrounds

If you already have environments or assets, we’ll help optimize them for the LED wall and make sure they perform correctly on set.

02.

Source or Create 2D

We can curate, license, or design 2D backgrounds, including stills, motion loops, and video plates tailored to your project.

03.

Build 3D Environments

From scanned real-world locations to fully custom builds, we create 3D environments designed for real-time use in the volume.

Common Questions

Do I need 2D or 3D environments?

It depends on your timeline, budget, and how the camera needs to interact with the scene. 2D is faster and simpler. 3D adds realism and movement, but takes more time to build. We’ll walk through it with you and help determine the right approach.

Can I bring my own backgrounds?

Yes. We can work with your existing assets and optimize them for use on the LED wall.

What if I don’t have anything yet?

That’s common. We can source, design, or build everything needed to create your environments from scratch.

How long does this take?

2D environments can be turned around quickly. 3D environments typically take 4–8 weeks depending on complexity.

Do I still need physical props?

In most cases, yes. Physical elements help sell the final image and work alongside the virtual environment to create a more believable scene.

Do I need to shoot at Forge to use this service?

No. Virtual art is a standalone service and can be used regardless of where you’re shooting.
